A guy at the hammer-in in Ohio said my tongs were pinching cold and I haven't made a pair the same since
Last weekend I drove out to a hammer-in near Dayton and this old guy named Ray watched me run a pair of tongs I'd forged about a year back. He grabbed them, turned them over once, and said the reins were pinching cold and my rivet was loose because I never re-squared the boss after drifting. I'd been blaming my hammer control for months of sloppy bites, but turns out I was just holding bad steel. Went home and reworked those tongs, tightened the rivet, filed the boss flat, and the difference in the bite was night and day. What's the one small thing about your tongs you wish somebody had pointed out way earlier?
