The 2 AM subtitles habit that broke my rewatch cycle

I used to power through every show with the volume cranked and my eyes glued to action scenes. But last month I started watching everything with subtitles on, even stuff I've already seen, because my partner kept falling asleep on the couch by 10 PM. Now I catch background jokes and tiny details I missed on three full runs of The Bear and Better Call Saul. It hit me that I was never really watching before, I was just following the plot. Has anyone else switched to subtitles and suddenly felt like they were seeing a totally different show?
