Rewatched an old favorite from the 90s and it hit different now

I put on The X-Files again after like 15 years and the slow burn pacing drove me crazy, I used to love those long monster of the week episodes. Now I realize I was way too patient back then because I had no streaming options, just waiting a whole week for the next episode. Has anyone else gone back to a show they loved and found it just doesn't hit the same anymore?

Totally get that feeling. I tried watching Buffy again last year and the whole vibe just felt off, so much slower than I remembered. It's weird how our brains fill in the gaps when we're younger and had to wait.

The bit about brains filling in the gaps really hits home. It's like that with so many things, not just old shows. I remember thinking my childhood hometown was this huge, magical place, then going back as an adult and it's just a small town with a gas station and a park. Our memories are basically highlight reels that skip the boring parts, so when we rewatch something or revisit a place, we notice all the slow bits we forgot existed. It makes me wonder if the things we hype up in our heads are ever as good as the real thing, but then again, maybe the anticipation is half the fun. Sometimes I think it's better to just leave some memories alone, you know? Let them stay perfect in your head instead of messing with them.
