Overheard a podcast host call a show 'good background noise' and now I can't unsee it

I was at the gym last Tuesday and this guy next to me had a podcast on where the host said some shows are just 'good background noise' because they don't need your full attention. I thought about how I binged a whole 14-episode season of a legal drama last month while doing dishes and folding laundry, and honestly I barely remember the case details. But then another show, like that one about the tiny town with the weird mayor, I had to pause every 5 minutes to rewind because I missed a clue. Maybe it's just me but isn't background noise the opposite of binge worthy? Has anyone else found that shows you can half-watch feel less satisfying in the long run, or do you actually prefer them for multitasking?

Same thing happened to me with that true crime series everyone was raving about. Knocked out three episodes while meal prepping and now I couldn't tell you whether the killer was the neighbor or the brother. But the weird thing is the shows I have to actually pay attention to always stick with me way longer. Half-watching feels like a waste of time once it's over.
