Tried to upsell a birthday cake and got a marriage proposal instead

So last Saturday at the bakery I work at, this guy comes in looking for a cake for his mom's 70th. I do my usual thing, show him the fancy tiered ones, mention we can add a custom message for like 8 bucks extra. He nods, picks the big chocolate one, then asks if I can write "Mom, you're my everything" on it. I say sure, no problem. Then he just stares at me for a solid 10 seconds and goes "You know, you have a really kind face. Want to grab coffee after my shift?" I'm standing there holding a frosting pen, completely caught off guard. I laughed and said I'm working till 9, and he said he'd wait. He actually waited outside for like 45 minutes. I slipped out the back. My coworker still brings it up every time someone orders a cake. Anyone else have a customer mistake basic small talk for something more?

Love this! Had a guy ask me to pick his lottery numbers once, totally serious.
