TIL a timer app fixed my side work drama at the diner

Been at this breakfast spot for 8 months and side work was always a mess. I'd try to remember when to restock the coffee station or wipe down the pastry case, but I'd get slammed and lose track. Last Tuesday I set a 20 minute repeating timer on my phone for the slow hours between 2 and 4pm. Now I just reset it every time I do a run and the closing crew actually thanked me yesterday. Has anyone else found a weird trick that keeps you on schedule when the rush dies down?

I mean, is restocking coffee really that complicated? Like you need a phone beeping at you to tell you to fill up a thing of sugar packets. I just look at the station when I walk by and if it looks low I fill it. That being said, if it keeps the closer off your back and you get left alone, then whatever works I guess. Just seems like the timer is the easy part and the actual issue is people not paying attention during the lull.

Funny how everything these days needs a reminder app. Grocery lists, water intake, step counts, now coffee restocks. We basically outsource our brains to the phone and then wonder why nobody notices stuff anymore. The timer works for the lazy closer, sure, but it's just another step toward everyone walking around with their eyes glued to screens instead of just looking at the world around them. Next thing you know they'll need an alert to tell them when the trash can is full.
