The drive-thru timer that made me rethink my whole pace

Tbh I always rushed through every order at my old fast food spot, trying to beat the timer like it was a game. Then one Tuesday this guy in a minivan got his bag, drove two feet, and just stopped to check everything right there. He found a missing dipping sauce and came back inside, and the whole thing took 4 minutes extra. That convinced me it's better to double check the bag at the window than get that green light on the screen. Has anyone else had their managers actually side with accuracy over speed when a customer complains?

Keep checking that bag at the window, seriously. Missing sauce or a messed up burger makes people way angrier than a 20 second wait, and they remember it longer too. Your manager might side with speed in the moment, but when that customer leaves a bad review or calls the store, that timer score won't help you. I've seen places lose regulars over stuff like that, so double checking is just smarter business. Just don't take forever with every order, find that middle ground where you're quick but still look inside the bag. That minivan guy did you a favor honestly.
