Discovered the 10 second rule for drive thru accuracy after 2 years of mistakes

I work at a fast food place in Orlando and for the longest time we kept messing up orders during rush. A manager from another store told me to just repeat the order back after the customer finishes, no matter how busy it is. Tried it during a Friday night rush and our mistake rate dropped way down. Has anyone else found a simple trick that actually fixed a big problem at work?

Wait, isn’t that just standard procedure that should've been trained day one?

Right but just because something is standard procedure doesn't mean it's always followed or taught well in the chaos of day one. I've seen so many places where "standard procedure" exists on paper but nobody actually trained people on the real world application of it. It's totally different when you're thrown into a stressful situation and your brain just blanks. Give them a little grace, maybe they were trained but the training was rushed or the procedure wasn't explained in a way that stuck. We've all been there where something obvious in hindsight just didn't click in the moment.
