Wasted $120 on a clipper blade sharpening kit that barely worked

Honestly, I bought one of those universal sharpening kits from Amazon thinking I'd save cash on blade swaps. After spending 2 hours trying to get my Wahl Seniors sharp again, the blades still tugged like crazy and I ended up buying new ones anyway. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand or method for sharpening at home?

Man sharpening kits are mostly a gimmick unless you really know what you're doing... I got one of those lansky rod systems thinking it'd be foolproof but ended up changing the angle too much on my Andis Masters and they actually got worse. The real trick seems to be getting a flat stone and keeping a consistent angle like 30 degrees while doing figure eights, but even then you need magnification to check for burrs. What worked for me was just buying a cheap set of ceramic stones from a knife supply place instead of those overpriced barber specific kits. Still took me three tries before I got a blade that didn't feel like it was ripping hair out.

I actually disagree with you there Sam. I've been using that lansky rod setup for about 2 years now on my Wahl Seniors and haven't had any issues once I figured out the angle marking trick. Instead of going by the guide rods I just sharpie the blade edge and eyeball it from there, which fixed my angle consistency totally. Flat stones definitely work too but it's way easier to mess up and gouge the blade with those without practice. I think those barber specific kits are garbage though, totally agree there.
