Update: I gave a client a super short buzz cut after he showed me a picture of a famous actor.
He came in with a photo of that guy from the new action movie, but his hair was super thick and wavy, not straight like the picture. I used a #1 guard all over, but it ended up looking way more severe on him and he was pretty quiet when he left. Has anyone else had a style from a photo just not work on a client's hair type?

My barber told me once that a photo is like asking for a pizza, but you still gotta check what toppings they actually have in the kitchen. He said thick, wavy hair needs at least a #2 guard to look like a #1 on straight hair, or it goes from "buzz" to "shaved" real fast. The texture just eats the length differently.

Actually, a photo is just a starting point for a conversation about what's possible. The client's hair type is just one factor, and a good stylist can adapt any look to work with it. Sometimes a bold change needs a minute to settle in, and quiet doesn't always mean unhappy.
