Tried a new way to hold my shears for a tight fade and my hand cramped up

I was working on a skin fade for a regular and switched my grip to try and get a cleaner line near the temple. After about ten minutes, my thumb locked up so bad I had to stop and shake it out. Anyone else find a good way to keep your hand loose during those long detail sections?

Ugh, did you try that weird pinch grip some guys on YouTube talk about? I made that mistake last month and my whole palm seized up halfway through a taper. Now I just take a quick five second stretch break every few minutes, wiggle my fingers, and it helps a ton. That constant pressure in one spot is a killer.

Oh man, that pinch grip is brutal. I learned the hard way too, my thumb joint was sore for days. Those short breaks are key, I do the same thing. It lets the blood flow back so your hand doesn't lock up. Trying to power through just makes the cramp worse every time.

Gotta disagree a little though. The short breaks help sure, but for me the real fix was backing off the weight and really dialing in my thumb placement. Pinch grip gets easier once you find that sweet spot where your thumb naturally locks in. The joint soreness went away after I stopped trying to crush the hold and just let my skeleton do the work.
