Tried a 0.5 guard on a fade for the first time in 3 months and had to fix it with a 1
Had a walk-in on Saturday at my chair in Fresno who wanted a tight skin fade and I figured I'd try starting with a 0.5 guard instead of my usual 1 to save time on the blend. The clipper dug in about an inch above his ear on the first pass, and I ended up going back in with a 1 guard and a comb to hide the line, which took 15 minutes longer than my normal routine. He tipped me $5 anyway and said it looked sharp, but I could feel the divot with my fingers the entire cut. If you're used to a certain guard depth, changing it midweek on a paying head is not the move. Any of you keep a practice head or a mannequin around just to test a new guard before you run it on a real client?
