Old timer told me something at my chair last Thursday

A guy in his 70s sat down for a trim and asked if I still use a straight razor for the edges. He said his dad was a barber in Brooklyn back in the 50s and used one on every single customer. I told him I do use one and he smiled and said "good, don't let that die out." Any of you still use a straight razor for basic neck trims, or is it mostly clippers now?

Honestly, keep at it with the straight razor. The old timers aren't just being nostalgic, that method gives a cleaner line on the neck than clippers ever will. Plus, customers notice the extra effort and it sets you apart from every other shop.

You're spot on about setting yourself apart. I'd even say the straight razor work is one of those skills that translates into repeat business because people remember when they got a cut that actually felt premium. Once they've had a good solid neck shave with one, going back to clippers just feels like a step down.
