Guy at my old shop told me to stop using clippers on kids and it still bugs me
About 6 months ago I was working at a shop over on Fenwick Ave and this older barber named Ray watched me do a 4 year old's buzz cut with clippers and pulled me aside after. He said, "You do a kid with clippers once and they hate the chair for life, you're not cutting hair, you're scaring them." I brushed it off at the time because the dad asked for a 2 on the sides and we were backed up 5 deep. But then I started noticing how many of my regulars flinch when the clippers come out, even grown men, and I switched to doing kids with scissors over comb first. Now I book an extra 10 minutes for any kid under 6 and I've had like 8 parents tell me their son finally sits still. Ray was right and I hate that he was right. Any of you do scissors only for the little ones or am I overthinking it?
