Chose the $12 Wahl guard set over the $40 Andis kit at Sally's in Reno, and my fade looked like a staircase
Needed a new set of guards on a Saturday because my old ones were chewed up, and Sally Beauty on South Virginia only had two options left. I chewed on it for ten minutes, went cheap with the $12 Wahl set, and three clients later a regular named Marcus asked if I was going for a "steps of a temple" look. The plastic tabs flexed on every pass so my #1 was basically a #1.5 with mood swings. Does anyone else keep a cheap backup set just for walk-ins, or am I the only one who got burned by flexy plastic?
Man, I have to disagree on this one. The cheap Wahl guards are actually fine if you know how to work with them, and the flex only bites you when you press too hard against the head. I have run the $12 set on walk-ins for two years now and my fades still come out clean, so the guard is not the problem, the hand holding it is.
