Barber chat at a trade show changed how I hold my shears

I went to a barber expo in Denver last month and sat in on a quick demo between classes. The guy running it pointed out that I was pinching my shears too tight, said it was costing me control on longer cuts. He showed me a looser grip with my ring finger barely resting on the handle, and I tried it on a mannequin right there. It felt weird for the first 10 minutes, but by the end of the day I was making cleaner lines without my hand cramping. Has anyone else picked up a simple trick from a random booth demo that stuck with you?

Did you try that grip on a real head yet? Gimmicks sell at expos.
