An old client's offhand remark changed how I do fades now

Had a regular in his 70s sit down last week and he said my fade looked 'too sharp, like a kid's haircut'. I laughed it off but then really looked at his old head shape and realized I've been doing the same tight fade for everyone for 6 years. Softer blend on him took an extra 10 minutes but the guy tipped me $20 and said it was the best cut he's had in a decade. Anyone else adjust their style based on client age or do you stick to what you know?
