A regular asked me to cut his hair like his dad used to

He brought in a faded photo from the 80s and said, 'Make me look like him again.' It was just a simple side part, but getting it right felt bigger than a haircut. Has a client ever given you a request that hit different?

That's a sweet story, but honestly most of my clients just want a trim and to get out fast lol.

Wait, @emmap16, they don't even want the head massage?

Agree with you there, emma. I mean, I get the whole "it's more than a haircut" thing, but honestly most of my regulars just want me to shut up and get it over with. One time a guy came in with a picture of his grandpa from the 1970s, all faded and torn, and he was like "my grandpa had the best combover ever, can you do that?" It took me like three tries to get the part straight and the little swoop right, and when he looked in the mirror he teared up a little. That hit me harder than I expected, cause I just thought I was doing a basic trim and then suddenly I'm part of someone's memory of their dead grandpa. But yeah, most days it's just "number two all over" and out the door.
