The library board meeting where my kid got called out by name
Honestly, I sat through a three hour school board meeting last Tuesday in Austin because they were debating the Graphic Novels section. My 13 year old daughter loves Heartstopper and one trustee kept reading panels out loud, mocking them while pointing at her. I brought a printed list of the 47 books the district removed this year and handed it to the board chair. He told me to sit down and wait my turn, but I just started listing the authors and their awards until the security guard came over. Finally, the superintendent admitted they never read the full books, just flagged pages from online summaries. Has anyone else had a trustee quote a book out of context during a public comment session?

That part about "flagged pages from online summaries" really got me. So they're literally admitting they didn't even open the physical books, right? What exactly is the point of a review process if they're just pulling random snippets off the internet, and how did that ever pass as acceptable to the board?
