The librarian who told me my censorship hot take was lazy

Last month I hopped into a thread arguing that challenged books are just kids' stuff, nothing serious. A librarian named Dana straight up said I was parroting the loudest voices without reading the actual objections. She pointed out that folks banning 'The Absolutely True Diary' aren't worried about swearing, they're scared of how it frames poverty and identity. I went back and read the school board transcripts from 2021 in Fairfax County, and sure enough, the complaints were all about discomfort, not content. Now I check who's pushing the ban and what they're really dodging before I open my mouth. Anyone else had their assumptions wrecked by someone who actually works with these books every day?

The "discomfort, not content" thing hit me hard cause my niece brought home a book about kids in foster care and my sister nearly lost it at the school board meeting, but she'd never even cracked the cover. I sat down with her and we read it together, and by the end she was crying over the part where the kid hides his lunch money so he can save up for a sleeping bag. People get real loud about stuff they havent actually sat with, and I guess real librarians got the patience for that mess.
