The librarian who gave me 'Captain Underpants' in 4th grade still gets hate mail

I saw a post from a district in Texas where they pulled all Dav Pilkey books off shelves after one parent complained about potty humor. My takeaway? People treat laughter as dangerous when it gives kids a reason to read. On one side, parents say they just want age appropriate content and less bathroom jokes. On the other, teachers I know say those books are the only thing that hooks reluctant readers, especially boys, and once they finish one they grab another. I still remember hiding that book inside my social studies folder and giggling so hard I snorted milk. So the debate is about control versus access, but the real cost is a kid who decides reading is boring again. Has anyone else seen a single complaint erase a whole series from a school library near them, and did the community push back or stay quiet?

Wondering if we're blowing this out of proportion. One parent complains and suddenly it's a big censorship story, but most schools get dozens of these a year and just quietly swap the book for something else. Kids who want to read Pilkey will find him at the public library anyway.
