Overheard a mom at the library say 'that book turned my kid into a socialist' about a Dr. Seuss book

I was just browsing the kids section last Tuesday when this mom goes off to her friend about how 'The Lorax' is a secret government plot. She said it teaches kids to question factories and stuff. I wanted to laugh but she looked dead serious. She even pointed at the Truffula trees and said 'see, that's a metaphor for sharing resources'. I thought banned book debates were about heavy stuff like 1984 or Huck Finn, not a story about a fuzzy creature yelling at a guy in a mustache. Still, it made me wonder what other innocent looking books get people riled up. Has anyone else run into a weird complaint like this about a kids book?

Parents really do read way too deep into Dr. Seuss.

Last year I would have rolled my eyes at this but then my nephew started asking why we don't have a "tree guardian" after we read The Lorax together.
