Local town pulled Persepolis from our library shelf mid-checkout

I was at the county library in Knoxville last Tuesday with my daughter, we had Persepolis in hand and the clerk suddenly got a call. She hung up and said the book was being pulled pending a review, just like that, no warning. Turns out a parent complained about the war scenes and the library board voted to remove it that morning without a public meeting. I asked how to appeal and they handed me a form with a 30 day deadline, which feels impossible to organize around. We ended up grabbing a copy from the state library interloan, but it took 3 weeks. Has anyone else had a book yanked while you were physically holding it? How did you push back?

My mom lost a whole set of encyclopedias that way back in 1987, they just vanished from our checkout pile.
