I wasted $85 on a banned book bundle from some online reseller and got nothing but photocopies
Back when I first got into banned books I thought I was being smart buying a whole bundle from this seller on eBay. Said it had like 12 classic challenged titles. Paid a premium for 'collector quality'. What showed up was a box of janky photocopies stapled together. Pages falling out. Some were blurry to the point of unreadable. That was three years ago and I still get mad thinking about it. Anyone else get burned by overpriced banned book collections?

People really don't realize that paying a premium for something just because it says "collector" or "rare" is a trap. It happens everywhere, not just with books. I see it at flea markets all the time, someone selling old records for fifty bucks because they say "vintage." Half the time they're scratched up and skip halfway through. The same goes for tools or even kitchen stuff. It's like folks think if it's hard to find, it's worth a fortune. But a photocopy is still a photocopy no matter how you package it. You paid for the idea of banned books, not the actual items.

Totally agree with you. It's wild how people get swept up in the "rare" label and ignore the actual quality.
