Changed my mind about banning Huckleberry Finn after talking to my neighbor
I always thought it was just about the n-word. Then my neighbor Mrs. Chen, a retired teacher from Detroit, told me how her 8th grade students used to debate the book's themes in 2019. She said banning it erased conversations about racism they actually wanted to have. Made me realize silencing a book doesn't fix the problem. Anyone else have a conversation that flipped your view on a challenged book?

Read an interview with a librarian once. Said kids get more curious about banned books - makes them want to read them more.

Buddy of mine has a 14 year old daughter. She never read anything unless the teacher forced it. Then her school banned "The Hate U Give" from the library. She went out, bought it with her own money, finished it in two days. Now she's reading everything by Angie Thomas. Funny how that works.
