Update: my bank flagged a $40 charge at a Target in Tulsa and froze my card on vacation
Everyone keeps saying banks are getting better at fraud detection, but I had the opposite happen two weeks ago. I was in Tulsa visiting my sister, standing in line at a Target on 41st with a cart full of stuff, and my card got declined for $40. I called the number on the back and the rep told me the charge looked weird because it was 600 miles from my usual spots, so they locked the whole account. The frustrating part is I had already told them through the app travel notice feature three days earlier, and they still froze it. I had to sit in the parking lot for 50 minutes, answer six security questions, and read a code off my wife's phone because mine was on the locked app. The rep kept saying it was for my protection, but how is it protection when I did the one thing you asked me to do. Has anyone else had a travel notice get ignored like this, and did switching banks actually fix it?
