Took 3 years but I finally ditched my paper checkbook for mobile deposit
Last week I was standing in line at my credit union in Austin and the teller asked why I still had a checkbook out. I told her I kept it for peace of mind, but honestly it was just habit from when I opened my account back in 2021. Three years ago I wrote maybe two checks a month, mostly for my landlord who insisted on paper. Last month he finally switched to a payment app, so I had zero reason to keep the book. I scanned my last few checks into the app the other morning and it took maybe 90 seconds each. Felt weirdly sad to see the register full, but also freeing. Anyone else hold onto old payment habits way longer than they needed to, or was I just the slow one?
My mom still writes checks at the grocery store and the poor cashier has to dig out that ancient little printer thing every single time. She swears it helps her keep track of spending, which is fair, but there's a line of ten people behind her judging hard. Some habits just die slow I guess.
