Serious question, why does my bank hold a $40 gas charge for 5 days but post a $900 rent check the same morning?
I noticed this last Tuesday when I was budgeting for a trip to Austin and saw the gas station hold from the previous Thursday still sitting there while my rent check cleared in under 3 hours, so does anyone know if this is a bank policy thing or something I can actually complain about?
My gym did the same thing last month, charged me $12 for a protein shake on a Friday and it sat pending until Wednesday, but my $75 membership fee drafted instantly on the 1st. The pattern I keep seeing is that anything coming OUT of your account moves at lightning speed while anything going back IN crawls along like it's walking through mud. Banks make money off that float, that's the whole game, they hold your cash as long as they legally can. You can complain but they'll just point you to some line in your account agreement about holds on certain types of charges.
