Question about whether it's better to batch payments or process them one by one

I always thought batching payments saved time, but after a mix-up at my local credit union in Austin last month where 3 transactions got duplicated, I'm rethinking it. Now I'm wondering if processing them individually with real-time verification is actually safer. Anyone else had a similar problem and switched their approach?
