My bank in Phoenix froze my account for three days over a $200 Zelle payment
It happened last Tuesday when I sent rent money to my roommate. The fraud system flagged it as weird, and I couldn't buy groceries or get gas. The worst part was calling support and being told it would take 72 hours to review. Has anyone else had a payment app trigger a full account lock like that?

Yeah, that three-day hold is the standard for a lot of banks now (which is crazy for a small amount). It's not really the app's fault, like Zelle or Venmo, it's the bank's own system getting spooked. Kelly.parker is right about it being a new protocol, but they can often speed it up if you call the fraud department directly instead of general support. I had to do that once and got it cleared in a few hours.

That exact thing happened with my old bank, but over a Venmo for concert tickets. The lock was so sudden my debit card got declined at a drive-thru, which was super embarrassing. They said it was a new security protocol, but it felt more like a hassle than help. It took two full days and three phone calls to get it sorted, and they never really explained why. Makes you wonder if the fraud systems are a bit too jumpy sometimes.

Too jumpy" is putting it lightly. My bank once flagged a $15 coffee purchase as suspicious and locked my whole account for three days. I get that they're trying to protect people, but when I'm buying a latte at a place I visit every morning, that's not fraud - that's a pattern. Ended up having to drive to a branch and wait 45 minutes just to prove it was me. It makes you wonder if their algorithms are designed to catch legit transactions more than actual scammers sometimes. Did they ever actually tell you what triggered the flag?
