Just realized my bank fees were eating $15 a month for no reason

I called my credit union after a friend pointed out I was getting hit with a monthly maintenance fee. They switched me to a basic checking account on the spot. Anyone else find hidden fees after a simple call?

Went through the same thing with Wells Fargo a couple years back. They had me on some "premium" account that gave me nothing I actually used. What did the credit union say when you asked why they never told you about the basic option sooner? Seems like they could have saved you a lot of hassle if they just offered it upfront.

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean its just a bank account, not like they locked you into a subscription lol.
