Just hit 1000 payments processed with zero chargebacks and it made me rethink everything
I run a small online store selling custom leather goods out of my garage in Portland. I always thought chargebacks were just part of doing business, you know, like a tax you gotta pay. But last month I crossed 1000 payments processed through Stripe without a single dispute or chargeback. That number really hit me because I used to think I needed to spend big on fraud prevention tools and insurance. What actually made the difference was simple stuff: sending tracking numbers automatically, responding to emails within 2 hours, and putting a real phone number on my contact page. I stopped treating customers like potential thieves and started treating them like neighbors. Has anyone else noticed a weird milestone like this that changed how you run your payment setup?

Man 1000 payments with zero chargebacks is no joke, that is seriously impressive. I've been there with that "chargebacks are just a cost of doing business" mindset and it really wears you down over time. For me the big shift happened when I finally stopped using those automated email templates that sounded like a robot wrote them. Just being a real person who answers questions like "is this leather gonna hold up in rain" has cut my disputes down to almost nothing too. It's wild how the simplest stuff like actually picking up the phone makes people trust you way more than any fraud detection system.

Right there with you @bettyh84, ditching the robotic responses and just talking to people like a normal human changed everything for me too. Most chargebacks come from confusion or bad expectations, and a quick honest answer stops that before it starts.
