Granny at the drive-thru taught me more about fraud than my whole compliance training

Last Tuesday I was grabbing lunch at a Chase ATM in Phoenix and this older woman in front of me was on the phone, reading her debit card number out loud to someone. I tapped her shoulder and she waved me off, saying 'it's my grandson, he works at the bank.' I waited, then asked her to hang up and told her banks never call asking for full card numbers. She got real quiet, called her actual grandson, and sure enough that was a scammer. She thanked me with a coupon for free tacos, which was nice, but now I can't unsee how easy that setup is. How do you all catch these things without seeming like a busybody?
