Why does it feel like getting a simple rate lock confirmation from a big bank takes a month of Sundays?

I mean, back in '08 you could call your guy and get it done in an hour, but last month my local branch took 22 days and three different managers just to send me a one-page PDF, has anyone else just given up and gone direct to a broker for speed?

It's the same story everywhere now, they've turned the whole process into a box-ticking exercise run by a central office. My last broker call was done in an afternoon because their whole job is to close the deal, not manage internal red tape. The big banks just don't have any reason to hurry up anymore, so they don't.

Central office probably needs a signed form in triplicate just to approve the coffee order. My last bank call had me on hold so long I aged out of the loan bracket. They move slower than a Monday morning, and with half the charm.
