The moment I realized my bank was charging me $12 a month for a fee I could have avoided

I was looking at my 2023 statements and adding up the monthly maintenance fees on my checking account, came to $144 total, then I walked into a credit union and asked if they had that same fee and the teller said 'we don't charge you to keep your own money here' so now I'm wondering if banks are just better at hiding costs or if brokers are actually more upfront about their trade fees.

Credit unions really just don't pull that nonsense, my checking account is completely free.

Credit unions are honestly just better for everyday banking. No junk fees, no minimum balance nonsense. People don't realize how much they're getting ripped off by the big banks. Free checking should be the standard, not a perk.

Is your bank charging you for the privilege of letting them hold your money?
