The day I finally read the fine print on my savings account at 2am
I've banked with the same national chain since I was 19, never questioned a thing. Last Tuesday I couldn't sleep and started digging through old statements. Turns out my 'high yield' savings was paying 0.04% APY while my brokerage sweep account was sitting at 4.8%. Same exact money, same risk basically, just one was in the wrong place. For 11 years I'd been losing about $900 a year on $25k parked there. What tipped me off was a Reddit thread comparing cash management accounts, someone mentioned their bank's rate and I laughed, then I checked mine and stopped laughing. Anyone else go through a decade without checking the rate on their own emergency fund?
