The $35 wire transfer fee that changed my mind about credit unions

I used to be all about big national banks because I liked the app and the ATM network. Then my dad had to send me $500 for a sudden car repair and the credit union charged him $35 just to wire it to my account at Bank of America. A broker friend told me that some brokerages actually refund wire fees if you have enough assets there. Now I'm looking at moving my emergency fund to a brokerage cash account instead. Has anyone actually had luck getting wire fees waived at Schwab or Fidelity?

$35 is crazy, that totally changed my view too honestly.

Hear me out though... $35 is cheap if it actually saves you from replacing something way more expensive down the line. A lot of folks spend that on a single lunch out and don't bat an eye. Could be worse, could be $100 with no guarantee it works at all.
