That one critique about my mutual fund fees that finally stuck

I was chatting with a guy at a Vanguard branch in Austin last spring, just asking about their index funds. He pulled up my old account from Edward Jones and showed me the expense ratios side by side. Mine were 1.2% on average, his were 0.04%. I knew fees mattered but seeing it in black and white like that, it hit different. I moved everything over that week and my retirement balance actually grew faster in 8 months than it did in 3 years before. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple number change made you switch?

Absolutely, 1% is huge over time and it actually blew my mind when I did the math too.

Wait, is a 1% difference really that big of a deal?
