My uncle laughed when I paid $15 for a brokerage account with free ETF trades

Turns out he was right, my bank was charging me $35 a trade on mutual funds for 3 years. Anyone else have a relative who finally got through to them about fees?

My buddy lost almost a grand in fees before his dad finally sat him down with a spreadsheet and showed him what he was paying for. He switched to a free trading app the next day.

My neighbor actually did something similar but with his car insurance. He was bragging about his "low monthly payment" until his wife ran the numbers and found out he'd been paying like $40 a month for roadside assistance and rental car coverage he never used for like six years. That's almost three grand down the drain. He called to cancel the extras and they tried to upsell him on like a "premium windshield package" before he could even get the words out. Now he's that guy who tells everyone at cookouts to check their insurance statements once a year.
