My dad's broker buddy in Tampa just said 'a bank's loyalty ends where their profit begins' and it's stuck with me.
He was talking about how his firm moved a client's 401k rollover last minute after their bank of 15 years offered a fund with a 2% higher fee than the market rate.

That broker buddy nailed something most people miss. Banks make money off your inertia, not your loyalty. The 2% fee difference on a 401k rollover over 20 years could mean losing six figures in growth. Your dad's firm did the opposite of what banks count on - they actually moved the money instead of letting it sit in a mediocre fund. Most people never check what their retirement accounts are really charging until it's way too late.
