My bank's 2-day hold almost cost me a car purchase in Boise

Last Saturday I had the cash to buy a used truck off a private seller. The bank put a 2 day hold on the deposit I made at the branch. The seller wouldn't take my payment until the funds cleared. I had to wait 48 hours and the guy nearly sold it to someone else. Called my broker and they said they could've done a wire in under an hour. Has anyone else lost a deal because of bank hold times? I'm thinking about switching most of my cash over to the brokerage account.
