I thought my broker was just guessing on rates until he showed me his live feed from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange last Tuesday.

That part about the live feed from the exchange is huge. I always figured it was just a sales pitch with made up numbers. Seeing the actual data move in real time, that's a whole different level. Makes you realize how much guesswork gets cut out. Totally changed how I see the whole process now.

My cousin used to work at a small trading desk in Chicago. He said they had this one old monitor just for the raw CME feed, no fancy colors or anything. Watching those plain numbers scroll was how they caught a bad order before it went through, saved their whole week.

Yeah, the "sales pitch with made up numbers" part is dead on. I've sat through so many of those where the guy just points at a chart that looks like it was drawn with crayon. Seeing real data move is like switching from a kid's cartoon to the actual news. Suddenly you're not just being told a story, you're watching it happen. Makes all the smooth talk before seem pretty silly.
