Heard a neighbor say they just walked into a bank for a mortgage like it was 2005

It made me think how the whole 'shop around' idea with brokers still isn't the default for everyone, even now. Has your family stuck with one bank out of habit?

My dad still uses the same bank his dad did, just for the family name on the branch.

Honestly, that loyalty feels like a weird kind of brand worship.

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at stuff like that too, thought it was just people being lazy or stuck in their ways. But then my grandma passed and I had to deal with her old credit union she'd been with since the 60s. The staff at that branch literally knew her name and helped me with the paperwork without making me jump through hoops like every other place does. It was kind of nice actually, like having a neighbor who remembers your face instead of some cold corporate machine. So yeah I get why someone would stick with a bank just because of a family name now. Sometimes it's not about worshipping the brand, it's about the people behind the counter who actually give a damn.
