That cheap pizza steel I was skeptical about actually works great

I picked up a $30 plain steel plate off Amazon last month after my $200 baking stone cracked. First pizza came out crispier than anything I've ever made. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference in how fast their crust cooks?

My cheap stone cracked too and now I'm mad my $30 steel makes better pizza than my expensive one ever did.

I got a FibraMent stone about four years ago for around $70 and it's still going strong with weekly use. I've had steel pans before too and they do bake faster but I find the stone gives a better crisp on the bottom without drying out the top quite as fast. Maybe your cheap stone was just a bad batch or you got one that wasn't seasoned right. I've had friends buy those $20 stones from big box stores and they always crack within a year so I think there's a middle ground. Just my experience though.
