Spent $85 on a proofing box and my bread got worse somehow

Tbh I thought a proofing box would fix my inconsistent loaves, but the thing runs so warm that my dough overproofed in like 40 minutes flat. I checked the temp with my instant read and it was showing 82F when I set it to 75F. First batch came out dense and flat, total waste of flour and my Saturday. Anyone else had a cheap proofing box run hot, or did I just get a dud unit?

Runs so warm" is an understatement. Mine did the exact same thing. Set it to 75, checked an hour later, it was reading 84. I ended up just leaving the door cracked open with a towel wedged in it. That got it down a few degrees. Also stopped trusting the built in dial and started putting my probe inside next to the dough. Cheap units are basically just a heating pad in a box, they overshoot like crazy. If yours is that far off, return it if you can. I kept mine but I basically use it as a warm spot for my starter now, not for actual proofing.
