Serious question, did anyone else's oven just die on the one day they needed it most?
My oven gave out on Thanksgiving morning while I was preheating for two pies and a 12 pound turkey. The bottom element just stopped glowing, no warning, nothing. I stood there at 8am holding a raw bird and a rolling pin, staring at the cold rack like it owed me money. We ended up driving to my sister's place in Rochester with everything uncooked in foil pans, and she had exactly one working rack. Has anyone else had an appliance pick the absolute worst day to quit, and did you fix it or just replace the whole thing?
What was the actual diagnosis when you looked into it later, was it just the element or did the control board go too? I ask because my brother had the same thing happen on Christmas Eve, bottom element died mid cook, and he swapped just the element for about forty bucks and it fired right back up. But his neighbor had a similar failure and it turned out to be the relay on the board, which cost more than a new basic range. That difference matters a lot when you are standing there deciding whether to repair or haul the whole thing to the curb. Did you ever figure out which part actually failed on yours, or did the oven stay cold until you gave up on it?
