PSA: spent $38 on fancy vanilla paste and my $3 bottle made the same cookie
I did a blind taste test at my place in Dayton two Sundays ago with two batches of the same sugar cookie dough, one with a $38 jar of vanilla paste and one with the cheap $3 bottle from the corner store. My wife and her sister both picked the cheap one, and I picked wrong too, so that is 3 out of 3 against me. I wanted the paste to win because the label looked so nice, but the dough does not care what the jar cost. Save the money and put it toward good butter instead, that is where you actually taste the difference. Has anyone else done a side by side like this and gotten surprised by the cheap one?
