My sourdough starter went from flat and sad to doubling in 4 hours after I moved it off the fridge top.

Yeah, that's a classic sign of a cold spot. My oven light trick works the same way, just gives it that gentle, steady warmth it craves. Total game changer for consistent rises.

Buddy of mine from work tried the heating pad trick with his sourdough starter. He set it on low and wrapped it around the jar, but he forgot to check the temp and cooked the whole thing to about 110 degrees. Killed all the yeast dead. Had to start a whole new starter from scratch.
