My sourdough starter escaped its jar and redecorated my pantry

So Tuesday night I went to feed my starter, the one I've had going for like 8 months, and the jar was completely full. I mean I forgot to burp it twice because I kept telling myself, oh it'll be fine for another day. Well it was not fine. The lid popped off sometime around midnight and that stuff coated three shelves, a bag of flour, and somehow the ceiling. I spent a solid hour scraping fermented goop off everything with a spatula. Cleaned it up, got a bigger jar, but now I'm paranoid. Does anyone else just let their starter sit for a few days and get surprised by the pressure, or am I the only one who needs a reminder to open the lid?

Cringe so hard reading about the ceiling, that's the part that got me. I've had my jar puff up and pop before, but never to the point where it climbed the walls like some kind of flour-caked alien. You're not alone in forgetting, but I'm definitely checking mine twice a day now because that story is my new nightmare.
