My aunt told me to always bake with salted butter, and I think she's totally wrong

She swore by it for years, saying it makes everything taste better. I tried it in my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe last week and they came out way too salty, almost inedible. Has anyone else had a bad experience with this specific advice?

My aunt gave me that same salty cookie advice once.

It works, but just a tiny pinch of salt is all you need. Too much and you'll taste it.

My grandma's recipe uses a quarter teaspoon for the whole batch. @aaronf40 that advice is solid, but it really depends on the type of cookie. A basic sugar cookie needs way less than a chocolate chip with nuts. Get it wrong and you just made a salty cracker. Why do you think bakers argue about this so much?
